Licenses and Copyright
I used to be pretty liberal about what other people wanted to do with my work. When I'd post things to my Behance, I'd tag them CC-BY-SA. I'd been an artistic free-spirit and maker myself, with the view that we'd by and large have more to gain by freely sharing and using.
Since then, two things happened, and you only need to know about one of them. If I post my work without a copyright, it's going to be fed into some meat grinder of an AI, and then that company is going to charge for it, and they will try to put their own restrictions on the derivative work. You can't take any of these companies for their word because you don't know what the next round of funding or acquisition is going to do to their terms of service.
This stance isn't about AI, as a tool. It's about the the cards being stacked in favor of those who can raise and spend more money than everyone else in the tech world, so they can extend their power over the rest of society.
If you know me in-real-life, you are welcome to ask me for use of my work. Unfortunately I cannot respond to online inquiries.
